All her life she had been

A vegetable garden

Every inch rowed and planted

In corn, beans, carrots:

Producing

Nourishing

Doing.

Now some landscape architect

Has rearranges the space

Clearing, softening

Putting in a little pond

And a path and sand

Offering a quiet place

For being

For sitting on the one rock

And studying

The single lotus.

Pastel and thin

She is an Oriental meditation garden
